I was and am a two issue voter--the health of the biosphere, including the climate collapse, and the continuation of democracy, such as it is, in the United States.

We lost on both of my issues, but we didn't lose on the 5th of November, 2024.

We lost on Tuesday, November 4, 1980, and on January 10, 2010, and on June 25, 2013 (Shelby v Holder).

The biggest obstacle to a sustainable and just world sits in this country, under these circumstances.

Are there other issues I care about? Of course! But if these two go unsolved none of the rest stands a chance.

I agree with most of your analysis and conclusions. I still want recounts of races, and criminal investigations into possible tampering with vote counts - here in North Carolina, I simply have a difficult time believing that we had such a big number of presidential-race-only voters.

I hear you, and agree, point after point, except for the overall idea that we can find our way back. I don't see enough people understanding what needs to be done and willing to do it all. Right now, I'm more in the mode of Well, it was a great try at government of, by and for the people. And we almost got there. Now we go into tighter focus, making our communities the best we can as the nation crumbles. We'll just do the next right thing, wherever we are.

I dunno, maybe calling voters "putrid" is not a good way to win their votes?

Donald Trump and his immediate circle are putrid, as are the hard core MAGA who attacked the Capitol in 2021, some of them wearing tee shirts saying 6MWE--six million weren't enough. They mean me and my family.

These people will never vote for someone unlike Trump. Yes, I have my issues with the far left, but they are not the immediate concern.

The main point here is that our elections are not free and fair, never have been, and that the neoliberal takeover heralded by the ascent of Ronald Reagan led directly to this outcome.

I believe that in a truly free society the problems brought by some (not all) of the left could be ironed out. The far right does not feel they need to "iron anything out". Why should they when they have tanks with which to roll over us...
