Annabel, I can HAPPILY report that Democrat Sen. Chris Van Hollen has just landed in El Salvador and last I saw, he was headed to the capital to pick up Obrego Garcia!!! Like 5 minutes I saw him on video in that vehicle, speaking about the focus of his journey! ALSO Judge Boasberg has issued a notice of “contempt of court” to donny’s regime to send those innocent men from Venezuela legally residing in the US! How about that. To read further, go to Breakdown in Substack and read Allison Gill’s report on Biasberg’s ruling. This is REAL! Right now

I hope he is able to either retrieve Garcia or his remains. And I already posted on the contempt of court. I would bet real money that the regime will ignore it. There is no way to enforce it.

If they really are fascist, and I believe they are, nothing legal will stop them.

I will keep an eye on the progress of Senator Van Hollen.

But in the end, it is up to us and it will be a hard slog.

What I am interested in at the moment--getting some kind of financial umbrella for workers so they can do a general strike.

Following the Van Hollen visit: The outcome does not surprise me. That man is not coming home, nor will his remains be sent home for a decent burial. The Senator is quoted as saying he is the first who will appear in person seeking access, but will not be the last. Every last Democrat in both houses could go, and the outcome would be the same.

I was actually afraid they would grab or harm Senator Van Hollen, can you guess why?

Annabel Ascher: You and are at about the same level of pessimism.

Or, REALISM?!

I vacillate. There is nothing about where we are now that gives me hope. All of the avenues we normally use are gone. I don't believe we win a straight up civil war (god forbid).

But somehow, beyond any reason, I still have an inkling that the arc WILL bend--towards democracy restored. And without a Deux Ex Machina. I don't know how, but I am watching for the break, even if it takes a long time to come.

Right now I am glad I can't know the future because my current view is so dark.

Well I just had to pay for accommodations for a Florentine visit in 3 weeks. Had too but I used airline miles so no cost there, lol. Since I’ve never been much of a consumer, but I support the concept of a strike in perpetuity. Nah, I’ll go into a recording studio and cut a demo of one of my songs. That’s how I react. Good luck with things.

I can't strike because I am not a member of the workforce. But this is about mass action. And the vast majority ARE workers.

My thing is to game out likely scenarios. When I played the tape forward on all of the obvious actions available to us, it became clear that most would fail. But a general strike and general boycott are within our sphere of action--we can control those things. And they are absolutely safer than being at large protests, where all kinds of nasty things can happen.

We can all do our bit, even if it seems small. Writing is mine...
