How Things Stand at This Moment
I don't want to say this, but feel I must. I believe we are deeply underestimating the power of this regime. The focus on the front man and insistence that we are somehow "winning" when there is no evidence of that is frightening.
The idea that warning of danger is fear-mongering is a serious tactical error. Am I afraid? You bet I am. It isn't the dissolute old libertine that scares me the most. It is the authors of this so far successful coup. They are not clowns. They are hardened operatives.
And they have had the drop on us for a long time.
I believe the plans for seizing power in 2024 were in the works from the 2018 midterms. Their execution was perfect. We were played.
I want to hear about one decisive win for our side.
Not how he is tanking in the polls. They don’t care.
Not how many lawsuits we are winning. It was already a sign that the cancer was advanced when they were “merely” ignoring the courts. Now they are ARRESTING JUDGES for ruling against them! And no matter how many of us protest, nobody so far has been able to stop them.
Not a few brave Democrats physically checking on CECOT. As of this evening NOT ONE in that illegal concentration camp has been returned. And ICE is still grabbing more people, all without due process.
Go down the list of heinous acts and try to point out ONE decisive win for us, the American people.
None of this means I give up. It is not a binary, with "I am so fearless as to be foolhardy, bring on the face-eating leopards so I fight them in a cage match" on one hand, and "I am so scared that I will obey in advance and then hide under the bed till I die" on the other.
Face-eating leopards are, in fact, dangerous. And if we want to defeat them, we would do well to remember that.
You describe this situation so well - that, yeah, it frightens me even more than I’ve thought of. You are, Annabel, speaking what the rest of us are likely - at least for now - have been afraid to even face. One, we’re taking them to court - then, they are arresting judges. Where do we go from here? The House Dems were meeting all night - WHO was even covering that? Any spokespersons from the Dems stepping up? Well, not many. The people are EXPECTED to protest - but where are the politicians joining us? Just Bernie & AOC? ALL I get from Dems are the BEGGING texts!!! I am completely OVER their lameass ways. We’ve been listening to Rachel Maddow tell us the VERY HARD things going on - well, her 100 days are DONE now.
