We all know that machines have glitches. When it is a cell phone, a printer, or even a car, it is annoying but that is where it ends.
Not so with our ever increasingly mechanized military and the wars they wage. Not just in the United States, though we hold the top spot.
Here’s the thing: machines have no moral compass. They do, perhaps, understand rules of engagement, but only as a set of logic principles. Not the way we understand them. And if there IS a glitch it could be catastrophic and uncontrollable.
If our species is going to continue to have mass psychotic episodes and go on killing sprees we should be limited to the weapons available in the year 1000.
Yes, it is still the senseless slaughter of innocents. But it makes the entire thing much harder and limits the scope to small tracts of land.
If we can’t control our greed and our aggression, let us at least control the carnage.
