Donald John Trump has only one talent: A charismatic ability to raise hate and discontent. And now he is old and diminished. In the world of the oligarchs, Musk far outranks him. A true multi-billionaire, the richest man in the world, over a conman of dubious assets. There should be no doubt about who is really running this train wreck.
The American Oligarchy never really went away. That is how it was able to pull off what amounts to a bloodless coup d'é·tat. Anyone paying attention has noticed that we have been living in a corporatocracy for many decades. Now the ranking oligarch is not even native born. Being an "immigrant" only applies to the riff-raff of the lower strata.
In fact, this country has been an oligarchy larping as a democracy for most of its history, except for the age of FDR, which actually ran from 1933-1980. During that brief span of years they were stymied, but not defeated. They lay dormant like a cancer until they sensed their moment, which arrived with the disenchantment of the late 1970s and the advent of the Reagan Era, which we are still in.
Every single "identity" battle is curated and marketed, masking the real issue. Class oppression. They call it class warfare when this is brought up in the public discourse. So far, there has been no war. Only a few skirmishes, with one clear victor.
Instead we battle each other over race, sex, religion, sexual orientation, immigration status, generational membership, and relative condition of poverty.
So let us enjoy our bread and circuses and try not to die young of curable diseases. Or starvation. While the overlords feast on the corpse of the body politic.
Very much the truth, I am profoundly saddened to say. A country that was created as a rebellion against a corrupt monarchy has given the final seal of approval a monarchy/oligarchy the likes of which the world has never seen. Waving banners and red hats, they cheered their rulers on, and will no doubt continue as the country is sucked dry by Musk and others who will gleefully dance around as everyone else is desperately impoverished. Not to mention the planet itself.
I grew up in the Kennedy years, and although our country was never perfect, still, we inspired many, created important innovations, and it was a time of prosperity and hope. I'm glad I got to live in those years. I am sorry for my grandchildren, who will face a much different challenge.
Annabel Ascher: Man, you state it so very well and crisply here:
"Donald John Trump has only one talent: A charismatic ability to raise hate and discontent. And now he is old and diminished. In the world of the oligarchs, Musk far outranks him. A true multi-billionaire, the richest man in the world, over a conman of dubious assets. There should be no doubt about who is really running this train wreck."
This is where we are in a nutshell!
Thank you so very much for sharing!
